The House of Verses is designed to depict architecture as a narrative with interior moods as spatial layers bridging art, architecture and life. It is located on a site with panoramic views of lush, green paddy fields of the serene, laid-back village of Parra. Parra is a charming village in Goa with picturesque landscapes and traditional Goan architecture.
The House of Verses is a flow of arches, arcs and vaults imagined to be a single monochromatic earthy dreamscape unravelling an experiential sequence of spaces and moods, like a book unfolding its words slowly to the curious and inquisitive creating a world of fiction, of poetry, of dreamy distant memories.
A stream of water flows in the House of Verses from the entrance as a long stepped channel till the end of the site, forming a reflective pool with an infinite view of the landscape and skies.
We imagined a Courtyard that would encircle the Tree that we would plant with this House. Could this courtyard then have a feel that could take you back in time while being in the present, just like one watches the seed within the fruit of a fully grown tree ?
We imagined the pool deck as a large outside space where the living room vaults open onto a large outdoor dining shaded between trees, with the tiny Juliet balcony peeping its head above. It was designed to be a place to be social, to be solitary, a place in between the reflective water, the endless paddy fields and the big blue skies.
The minimal, earthy material palette continues within the home as well. In the living area, the double vaulted, exposed brick roof compliments the earthy, artisanal plaster lending a sense of warmth and comfort to the exaggerated volumes.
The dining was imagined to be a ceremonial, transitional space in-between, sometimes shared, sometimes intimate, in between the open courtyard and the house, at times meditative, and others collective.
All the bedrooms are monochromatic but unique in their interior, crafted with a mix of monastic cool cave like interiors built with traditional artisan plasters . The arched wooden windows bring a soft filtered light along with handmade cane and wooden wardrobes and doors that bring warmth and texture to the sleeping spaces.
