Based on the general summer school brief of ‘Eccentricity’, the unit will be inspired from its present eclectic street art and graffiti culture as well as its rich communal diversity, to build on the mysterious and the fantastical, on complexity and diversity, communicating through the abstract and the figurative, the personal moods and experiences that form our fictional ‘pieces’. Challenging conventional ownership and thresholds of public and private space the unit will investigate the role of flexible and temporary urban environments in an increasingly imbalanced world. Understanding the role of collective DIY construction, we will develop 1:1 scale ‘pieces’ that are imaginative and inventive as well as modular and foldable.
