We were engaged by the Here&Now design agency to design their workspace , at the heart of the multicultural design district of East London near Brick Lane.
The brief was to create an interesting play of furniture and spaces as well as to focus on lighting in this deep dimly lit existing old administrative building space.

We were engaged by the Here&Now design agency to design their workspace , at the heart of the multicultural design district of East London near Brick Lane.
The brief was to create an interesting play of furniture and spaces as well as to focus on lighting in this deep dimly lit existing old administrative building space.
With a severe time constraint of only two months to make this space, we focused on bringing this interesting play to quick design solutions of lighting layouts and faceted partitions.
Concept
Inspired from the surrounding multi-cultural area that has shaped over centuries by different migrating communities we focused on ‘migration as the central concept for designing the elements within the space.
The design was generated with three interwoven migrating layers; the walls, the lights and the furniture that would shape the space, each as an integral part of the migrating interior-scape.
Mapping Lines from Migrating Birds
The first layer of the migrating landscape is formed with faceted partitions that move around the existing concrete columns of the building connecting them visually and spatially as well as highlighting the contrast between the old solid structure and the new fluid divisions.
The second layer of lights was designed in two sub layers, the first one with fluorescent lights that produced a dynamic layer between the floor and ceiling forming a floating sinuous pattern of lines migrating across spatial boundaries
Mapping Lines to Interior Lines
The furniture was designed as a more personal inter-layer with an undulating layer of multicoloured felt partitions giving a sense of colour, choice and identity for each of the employee that worked at the office.
